These 10 Easy DIY Beauty Products are a collection of recipes that anyone can put together for greater health and more radiant beauty.

When I started trying to live a more natural life, the first place I looked was my cleaning products.  After I found some good alternative recipes for cleaning products, I overhauled my beauty supplies and toiletries.  Our family was using so many chemicals to try and stay clean and beautiful.  These recipes are the result of some trial and error to see what worked for us.  You might want to tweak them a little to fit your family’s needs.

You only need 7 natural products that can be found at any health and natural food store plus some quality essential oils.  (See the end of the post to find out where I buy my oils at a great discount!)

    Soothing Bath Soak

    • 1 cup Oats
    • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
    1.  Place the oats in a washcloth or fabric napkin and tie it closed with a hair elastic or rubber band.  Throw the oat packet in the water while the bath is filling.
    2. Add the essential oil under the faucet to distribute the oil.
    3. Remove the oat packet and soak for as long as you’re comfortable.

The essential oil will create a soothing aroma and help you release tension as you soak.  Oats soothe dry and sensitive skin.

    Shampoo

    • ½ cup Organic Baby Mild Castile Soap – Unscented
    • ¼ cup Spring Water
    • 2 teaspoons Jojoba Oil
    • 1 teaspoon Vegetable Glycerin
    • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
    • 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil (optional)
    1. Combine all ingredients in a reusable squeeze bottle.  Shake vigorously before each use.

Apply a very small amount and work with your fingertips from your scalp to the ends of your hair.  Rinse thoroughly.

As always, take care not to get any in your eyes.  If some gets in your eyes, rinse thoroughly with regular tap water.

This shampoo is invigorating for your scalp and aromatherapeutic for your entire being.  Your hair will be gently cleansed and moistened in one step.

    Leave In Hair Conditioner

    • 1 teaspoon Jojoba Oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E
    • 1 drop Lavender Essential Oil
    1. Mix all the ingredients together before you wash your hair.
    2. After washing and towel drying, place the conditioner in your hand and work it around in your palm.
    3. Apply the mixture to the ends of your hair first working it into the shaft of your hair.

I like to flip my hair over and finish the conditioning by running my fingers through my hair in front and back.

The jojoba oil is easily absorbed into your hair and scalp.  It leaves a soft feeling instead of a greasy residue.  The vitamin E is extra nourishment for your locks.   The lavender essential oil will leave you feeling peaceful and calm, ready to face the day ahead.  You’ll also carry that calming influence with you as you go about your day.

    Whipped Body Butter

    Creamy NOT greasy

    • 1/4 cup Shea Butter
    • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
    • 2 tablespoons Jojoba Oil
    • 3 drops Lavender Essential Oil
    • 1 teaspoon Vegetable Glycerin
    • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E
    • Supplies: NutraNinja blender
    1. In a double boiler, melt the shea butter and coconut oil very gently over very low heat.  Stir to combine.
    2. Allow the oil mixture to cool to room temperature.
    3. Place the shea butter and coconut oil into your Nutrininja blender cup along with all the other ingredients.  Place the blender lid on and pulse the ingredients together.  This will whip the mixture into a dreamy cream.
    4. Store the body butter in an airtight jar in a cool location.

Apply all over your body to moisturize your skin.  This would be great for elbows and knees or dry winter skin.  This is probably a little too heavy to use on the face, but some people with very dry, chapped skin might enjoy the combination.

Shea butter is a emollient which holds in moisture.  Coconut oil is a great, all-purpose oil that most people find very soothing and penetrating to their deeply dry skin.  Jojoba oil absorbs easily into the skin and makes this body butter less greasy.  The lavender essential oil will help soothe even dry, cracked skin while also giving a sense of peacefulness and calm.  Vegetable glycerin actually draws in water from the air.  This helps moisturize your skin.  Finally, vitamin E is an excellent nourishing ingredient for hair and nails.  It feeds healthy cells!

Extra Moisturizing Skin Treatment for Sensitive Skin

I got this idea from DIY Natural and love the concept.  I made a few changes that worked for our family.

    • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
    • 1/4 cup Shea Butter
    • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
    • 3 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia Essential Oil
    • 3 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
    1. In a double boiler, gently melt the coconut oil and shea butter over very low heat.  Blend them together and set aside to cool in a small bowl.
    2. When the mixture is still liquid and just about room temperature, add the essential oils and mix thoroughly to combine.

The coconut oil is a great choice for sensitive skin.  It is a wonderful way to apply essential oils because it’s gentle and holds the oils on the skin so that they can be absorbed.  Shea butter is emollient and basically creates a protective barrier so your skin doesn’t lose precious moisture.  This combination of essential oils are great for sensitive and dry, scaly skin.  It can support your body in healing itself.

    Acne Spot Treatment

    • 1 drop Jojoba Oil
    • 1 drop Melaleuca Alternifolia Essential OIl
    1. Mix the oil together and place directly on any acne spots.  You can use a cotton swab or a clean fingertip.

You can apply Melaleuca Alternifolia essential oil directly to your skin for effective acne treatment, but I think the addition of the jojoba oil helps the skin heal and prevents it from getting dried out.

    Gentle Exfoliant Face Wash

    • 1 teaspoon Oats
    • 1 teaspoon Castile Soap
    1. In the palm of your hand, add the oats and castile soap.  Mix them together and immediately apply to your face in a circular motion.  Rinse thoroughly.

The oats will gently exfoliate your skin removing dead skin cells.  Castile soap is gentle enough for sensitive skin but cleansing enough to remove makeup and dirt from your pores.  The circular motion encourages glowing skin.  Make sure to apply a moisturizer after cleansing your face.

    Facial Moisturizer

    • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
    • 10 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia Essential Oil
    • 10 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
    • Jojoba Oil
    1. In a small glass bottle (I use these cute, little, amber bottles!), add the essential oils.
    2. Fill the rest of the bottle with jojoba.  It will be around 1/4 teaspoon of jojoba. Just watch the bottle and make sure not to overfill your precious mixture onto the countertop.

Apply to clean dry skin.  This facial moisturizer is light enough to use day or night.  If you use it before applying makeup just make sure to give plenty of time for your skin to completely absorb the oils.

I use this on my face each night.  It soothes my sensitive skin and doesn’t irritate my rosacea.

    Lip Balm

    • 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil
    • 1 teaspoon Shea Butter
    • 3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
    1. Melt both oils in a double boiler.
    2. Mix the essential oil and place the mixture in a glass jar.
    3. Store this lip balm in a cool place.

This lip balm soothes dry, cracked lips.  The peppermint is invigorating.  I love the shiny gloss this adds to my lips.

    Mouthwash

    • 2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
    • 1 ounce of Water
    1. Combine these ingredients in a cup and swish to combine.

Swish in your mouth for around 30 seconds.

This has a cleansing effect on your teeth and gums.  Swish away!

You might also enjoy adding a drop or two of peppermint essential oil to this recipe.  Yummy pepperminty goodness!
