Lauren Cobello » Budgeting » Frugal Living » 3 Must have things in your medicine cabinet – How to take care of a baby with the flu
A couple of weeks ago the Flu hit our house HARD! It was a two week long sickness that affected four of us – thankfully two of my kids got away without catching it.
The worst part of the flu, was when my baby girl got it. She is 18 months old now, and she was so very sick. It broke my heart!
I think that for four days straight I laid on the couch with her laying on my chest. She was too sick to move, with a fever too high, and without an appetite.
I finally took her to the dr. after she was sick for 5 days, and the diagnosis was the officially FLU! Deep down I knew she had it, but didn’t want to take her for fear of infecting the other kids in the doctor’s office.
When Abby woke up with a fever I had no medicine in my cupboard. I had to send Mark out of the house very early in the morning to go grab some at the store!
When FeverAll reached out to me about their Acetaminophen Suppositories and I had no idea they even existed, and was so happy to find something that would help Abby with her fever.
The hardest part of the flu was trying to keep her hydrated and keep her fever down. We did a lot of warm baths, cool compresses, and snuggles. At first, she would not take fever medication, so Mark and I had to hold her down on the floor and give it to her against her will. It was heartbreaking for me to have to do that, but I also knew how terrible she felt with a high fever.
I so wish I had had some of this in my cupboard when she first came down with the flu, but I am thankful that I have it in my pantry now for when she gets a fever again.
FeverAll Acetaminophen Suppositories is the only acetaminophen brand with dosing instructions for children as young as six months of age. It is scary when your young child gets a high fever, and then you are told that there is nothing much you can do for them.
Thankfully we did not have the pukes with our flu, only a high fever and coughs. There are many times when my kids do get a stomach bug and can’t keep medicine down, I can see FeverAll suppositories being a huge help in that instance too.
Make sure that you LIKE FeverAll on Facebook.
Okay – not to be gross or anything BUT…Does anyone have two thermometer in your house? One for ‘kids purposes’ and one for mouthes? Has anyone looked at a thermometer and had the thought….”I hope this is the right one?”. Then proceeded to chuck it in the garbage and go to the dollar store to buy a new one?
I hope I am not alone and embarrass myself horribly!
This Safety First Thermometer is AMAZING and you will never have to ask yourself that question again.
It also comes with a handy fever chart on the back of the packaging that you can cut out and save for later. This was helpful for me to know what a fever is, when measured on certain parts of the body. I just wish this fever chart was somewhere on the actual thermometer, but I can tell you I will lose that chart in .2 seconds! (Safety 1st – if you are listening, can you make that happen for me, PLEEEAASE!)
Call your Dr. if are concerned (I have mine on speed dial!). They are used to hearing all types of questions about babies. Call your dr. if you have any questions about the flu or how to take care of your child – you are NOT pestering them and I can guarantee they have had more annoying patients that you anyways!
To see a video about these three things – you can watch the YouTube video below (or follow this link)
Having all three of these things on hand at any time will help you feel at ease when your baby comes down with the flu. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to you – but it is always good to be prepared!
