  • Everyone wants a high-paying job.  But what is a job that pays well with little college education?

One problem is that many high-paying jobs require years and years of college education. That means having to fork over a bunch of money for tuition and books.  That means having student loan debt.

Plus, the longer you’re in college, the less time you actually have to work and make money. There’s definitely an income sacrifice that accompanies going to school.

So, how do you cut down on the amount of time you spend in school while ensuring you have credentials that land you high-paying jobs?

Here are a few of them that pay well with little college education:

    1. Registered Nurse

According to PayScale.com, the average rate for a registered nurse is $26.67 per hour. That equates to $53,340 with two weeks of vacation per year.

Typically, registered nurses will make the most money in a hospital setting versus an outpatient facility. There are a number of tasks that registered nurses must be willing to perform:

    • Taking care of injured, ill, and disabled patients. They will also take care of patients recovering from surgery.
    • Giving advice to patients for their continuing at-home care and health maintenance.

Working with medical records, assessing the health status of patients, and coming up with a proper course of action to heal patients.

The great news is that to become a registered nurse you only need two years of college. You can typically pay very little for this schooling through a community college.

    2. Professional Blogger

Professional bloggers can make money providing useful information to their readers. That’s what Mark and I do, and we love it!

Mark and I both have our unique set of skills. I am great at teaching people about their money habits through products like The Finance Renovation and The Personal Finance Planner. Mark is more of a spreadsheets kind-of-guy and doesn’t really mind thinking through the numbers.

If you have a skill, talent, or understanding of a certain subject that will be of interest to an audience, you can make money by blogging about it. There are several ways you can make a living through blogging:

    • Selling downloadable ebooks.
    • Placing advertising on your blog.
    • Becoming an affiliate for products and services.
    • Create your own products and courses.
    • Providing consulting services for those who want to learn more from you.
    • Become a freelance writer

Mark and I make money using all of the above options, but there are also some other ways you can serve bloggers in your niche:

    • Writing articles.
    • Providing web development services.
    • Editing content.
    • Writing marketing material.
    • Providing custom photography for websites.
    • Designing custom graphics for professional bloggers.

If you want to start your own blog, the cost is pretty low and you don’t have to have much money saved up to do so.

Buying hosting for your website usually costs less than $10 per month and purchasing a domain name is usually less than $10 per year. Granted, you may want to invest in a good camera if you’re a fashion, food, or decorator blogger. You might also want to invest in a good computer that can get the job done.

Many professional bloggers who have been at it for several years can make between $1,000 and $10,000 per month. It’s a wide range.

    3. Elevator Repairer and Installer

According to PayScale, the average rate for an elevator repairer and installer is $28.55 per hour. With two weeks of vacation, that totals $57,100 per year.

Typically, a college education is not required for this job at all. That makes this job a fantastic deal, and there are opportunities to make even more money per year.

You can gain the skills required to become an elevator repairer and installer by working under someone who is experienced in the trade and is willing to help you learn.

Skills include having to fix, mount, and maintain lifts – including escalators.

    Final Thoughts

One of the best ways to find a job that’s right for you is to talk with people in your community. Ask your neighbors what they do for a living. Talk with people at church. You never know what you’ll learn!

The more ideas you come up with and find, the more likely you’ll be to discover a job you love and pays well. With rising tuition year after year, finding innovative ways to learn a new skill or trade outside of the classroom will become more and more important.

If you do discover a job you’d like to try out that requires a college education, we advise you to avoid taking out loans to go to school. The last thing you want is to have a college degree that you’re not using while having to pay off loads of debt. That’s a no-win situation.

Instead, seek out as many scholarships and grants as possible. Pay for your tuition as you go. Keep your borrowing down to a minimum. Then, you’ll be able to graduate with little to no debt and if it turns out that you don’t want the job that you originally thought you’d want, you can try something new without the burden of debt.

  • I don’t know what you mean by “with little college education”n but most hospitals will not hire RNs without a Bachelors Degree . I’m an RN, and depending on where you live, you can Mahe as much stated. But just starting out, you’ll probably be making closer to $20/hr, and if you work in a hospital, you’ll probably end up working nights. Don’t get me wrong, i love what i do, but it took more than just “a little college education’ to get me where i am today.
