I received this question the other day and thought it was a good one to address in a blog post, here is the question:

Hi I’m 20 weeks pregnant and want to start stocking up on diapers and wipes.

This is my first though and have no clue what a good deal is.

Can you tell me what are some good price points for diapers and wipes? Thank you!

This is a great question that comes up frequently and since I’ve had 4 babies I have a little bit of experience 🙂

If you are having your first baby and you are not sure how to save on diapers, here are some recommendations that I have.

1.) Don’t stock up on 1 kind of diaper, try getting a few different brands in size 1, that way you see what works and what doesn’t work.

My son could only use Pampers diapers because  he would leak out of all the others and one of my daughters got rashes with Huggies.  By stocking on a few different types I could see what works and what doesn’t.  I also recommend  keeping all your receipts by taping them directly to the packages as you buy them.

2.) Don’t buy a lot of Newborn diapers.

All of my babies have been in the 7 + lb range, and they usually gain weight quickly.   We’ve never used more than 3 packages of newborn diapers packages for any of our babies.  With my first child, I had 10 packages of newborn diapers and ended up having to return most of them… which was a pain!

3.) Set a stock up price per diaper and per wipe.

Know your stock up price, which is the price per diaper that you look for when shopping the sales.  My stock up price is $0.17 or less per diaper.  If I see a name brand deal (Huggies, Pampers, LUVS) for this price, I will buy as many as I can and set them aside.  I also try to stick to $0.01 or $0.02 per wipe as my stock up price – I can almost always find this price on Amazon (see below).

4.) Don’t be afraid to buy store brand diapers and wipes.

There are many great store brand diapers, Target brand diapers are my favorite .  I’ve also heard good things about Aldi brand diapers, but have never tried them myself.  I’ve tried Walmart brand, but I wasn’t too impressed with the quality.

Aldi wipes are actually my new found LOVE – they are similar quality to Pampers wipes and cost only $0.87 every day!

5.) Sign up for Amazon Mom .

This is a FREE program which gives you 20% off diapers and wipes online at Amazon.com.  Combine those with a sale and a digital Amazon coupon and we can see some fantastic deals!  You can get 2-day FREE shipping so you don’t even have to leave your house!
