    COMMENTS

  • Whole Foods isn’t available in as many places as Aldi. Until I moved to a city 500 miles from where I had lived for 11 years 6 weeks ago, the nearest WF to me was 2.5 hours. There was an Aldi 7 minutes away though and organics at Aldi beat the pants off the natural food stores in town.

    • Agreed. My nearest Aldi is five minutes from my house. The nearest Whole Foods for me is a 30-40 minute drive. I can often get meat and poultry for less at Earth Fare near me but for the bulk of our groceries, we shop at Aldi.

    • why did you close our Aldi store on east state, you moved way east on state street, you are not convenient to me, you almost lost a customer but Save A Lot moved too, so I was screwed no matter what, I have to drive several miles to do you, not my idea of nice,

  • I love Aldi and all the organic things, but your list includes several items that are not organic. The Simply Nature line at Aldi includes “all natural” products, SOME of which are organic. The ones that are organic all carry the “Organic” label on the product packaging. You’ve included several items that do not have this, such as the Exotic Vegetable Chips and the Sweet Potato Chips.

    • If you look at what is written below product name you will see they have written ‘organic’ if it is organic.

    • I prioritize what I buy in organics:
      1) Grains and Beans – These are some of the most heavily sprayed (even if they say Non-GMO)
      2) The ‘Dirty Dozen’ list by EW for produce.
      https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php
      3) Dairy & Meat – But I also buy local milk from a trusted farmer and buy ‘Animal Welfare Rated’ meats on sale. I’ll also buy cheeses from other countries that are cleaner. NZ, for example, has some of the highest standards for dairy, so good grass-fed chesse from there is probably cleaner than US organic.

  • Aldi has slowly become one of my favorite grocery stores (along with the co-op.) The prices, the just right amount of organic, the new cheeses that come in every few weeks, etc. I love how there is something new there every week (got an amazing Vitamix knockoff 6 months ago for $75 I have used a ton, a TRX knockoff for $15!!!! (they seem to be built as good as the real ones for $179.99)

This article is great!! So many of my go to products are listed on here, I can vouch for the deliciousness validity of these claims : ) Though I regularly eat a lot of these listed, quite a few I’ve seen but haven’t tried, and a few I haven’t seen in my particular Aldi yet, so I will be trying a few of these, glad I stumbled up this!

  • HOW SAD IT IS…when we are forced to eat GMO and all the other toxins in our food…and have to hunt all over the world to get REAL FOOD!

    • yes i agree the government should make provisions for more thorough testings on all our foods we consume so that anything we buy is 100% healthy to eat, we shouldn’t have to search for it.

  • Does the labels on the grass fed meat and fruits and veggies say WHERE they are from, aka; origin????? I am curious if fruits and veggies are from China! And if Grass Fed beef is from Australia, cause the beef from there is terrible! And China has NO quality control there, they don’t know what Organic is just throw a label on it!

    • A lot of the fruits and veggies are locally sourced. I know at least my eggs and milk are local from my area. The meat I think has to say the origin on the label.

      • When I looked at a package of the grass-fed beef there, it came from three different countries (in one package), including Argentina. No thanks…seems to increase risk of mad cow disease IMO. I’d rather my meats have a single source.

  • Half this stuff you will not find at most stores. They are Special Buy items or what’s called an ALDI find.. meaning it comes in the ad on a rotation of 3 to 6 months and it’s limited quantities while supplies last. Also lots of items are not organic. Just because it is the simply nature line doesn’t mean it is organic. You still need to read to labels. They label items very well and it’s easy to see if things are actually gluten-free or organic.

    • I agree, both to the availability and that simply nature does not mean organic. To me, natural cane sugar is still sugar.

  • I made an Aldi trip the other day just to see what all the fuss is about, as I buy almost all organic organic and eat mostly whole foods (think “the outside aisles” of the store). I passed by over half of the organic items as they were just organic processed or “junk food.” These processed foods are still not great to eat even if they are organic. Sweetened cereal, fruit ropes, pastry bars, crackers, potato chips, bottled salad dressing, spaghetti-o’s… they are still not good for you. I find their organic produce to be, at best, the same price, and at worst, more expensive than my local health food store and BJ’s Wholesale. AND Aldi only has a handful of organic produce items, so I still would have to go elsewhere to finish my shopping. You can get 3-4 times the greens in a larger container at BJ’s for only twice as much. I can get fresh bunches of greens at the health food store (and farm in season) for less. Also, I find that per ounce, some of the items are less expensive in a bigger package at BJ’s (organic tortilla chips, frozen fruit, rice to name a few). bananas and apples were the same price as elsewhere. And meat is more expensive than my local organic farm, and it is comparably priced to other local stores. (And the chicken did not taste as good either.) The milk is ultra pasteurized (if you want something good for you look for regular pasteurization, and better, non-homogenized, or even better, raw milk… and YES you will pay more for the good milk, but if you want organic, why degrade it with ultra pasteurization?). The honey is processed (by heat) and all the good enzymes are destroyed (you really want RAW honey). I bought some “grass raised milk” (non-organic) cheddar cheese that ended up being from Australia?!?! (I should have looked before buying). I can get organic regional cheese for the same price. The organic chicken was bland, not at all like the farm raised stuff I get locally. And the beef was $2 more a pound than what I get locally. I did not try that. Overall, I was not at all impressed. I’ll stick with my locally owned health food store, the area farms (look for a good CSA for produce), the produce market, farmer’s market, local bakery, and your local beekeeper. And I’ll continue to stay away from boxed, dead foods, organic or not. I prefer food that retains the benefits of fresh live food that is full of natural health benefits (avoiding ultra pasteurized, heated, processed food). I hope this helps others to seek out great sources for your food.

  • I have been shopping at Aldi’s for over 30 years, yes here in the USA not in Germany and they have saved me thousands of dollars, and I must say they have really progressed over the years. The last couple of years I have noted that Aldi’s produce has exceeded Publix’s by far in quality not to mention that the price is always less. Thank goodness they continue to expand here in south Florida so maybe soon I will have a store 5 minutes away.

  • Why did you stop selling the SimplyNature Extra Virgin Coconut Spread ? I like it so much better than earth balance. I hope you bring it back into Aldi’s Store’s again.

    • What happened to the SimplyNature Extra Virgin Coconut Spread? It is no longer available in my Aldi’s in Fairview Park, Ohio ? It is a great product. Every time I inquire at my local Aldi’s no one knows how to get it replaced.

  • Can anyone tell me anything about the chia or hemp seeds? I’m wondering why both bags say,*”May contain peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, wheat”.

    • Debbi,
I think it’s because like any other manufacturing plant that processes those other items listed on the wrapper, they have to let you know that there could be some cross contamination. It doesn’t mean that there is necessarily any in there just that it’s processed at plant where there are those items as well.

  • July 2017 I’ve discovered that Aldi’s has gotten so very much better than it used to be. They have gotten in even more organics and their prices have gone down. The organic blueberries that costs about $4.99 to $5.99 ELSEWHERE are only $2.47 at Aldi’s. Plus their new item “organic grassfed beef” is great. I didn’t used to be enthused about Aldi’s but recent visits there are a drastic improvement. Plus the amazing prices on garden items, etc. are almost unheard of anywhere else. (even less than Costco prices).

  • Aldi is a good store with cheap prices, they don’t carry the organic frozen veggies and Italian extra virgin olive oil. that is disappointing

  • Hi Lauren I just want to thank you for posting information about buying organics at Aldi. I shopped at Aldi years ago before I switched over to the organic scene. I have been shopping at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. This has been a huge strain on our budget. I came across your web site and thought I should give Aldi another try. I just returned from a shopping trip and was able to buy an entire cart full of organic staples and produce for $250. Wow! I would have spent triple that amount for the same amount of groceries at Whole Foods. Aldi truly is a game changer. Thank you for speaking out about the great organic products at Aldi!

  • I buy about 85-90% of my groceries from Aldi. You do have to be a label reader. There are a few brand names and items that my family likes that they simply don’t carry. My son loves soups and their selection is very small. I shop there first and then supplement with another store. What’s funny, is that sometimes I forget to go out to another store and don’t even miss whatever I thought I needed to get!

  • Does anyone know if the Season Choice frozen string beans are non-gmo’
I can not find the answer anywhere with searches.

  • Not all items are available at all stores. Furthermore some items listed are as general as they can be, meaning limited quantities, appears to be lost losers to bring in more/new customers and only if available at your particular Aldi. Those lost loses are either seasonal or one time deal for customer enticement, similar to what Costco does. Understandably, stores do need to bring in customers and make profit to stay in business. However I wish somehow they would make it where we could easily determine items available at our local Aldi of interest.
I enjoy shopping at Aldi, my husband hates it and refuses to go there. His issue is most of their fresh fruits and veggies are old, rotten, limited quantities, and picked over. I go early when they open, he goes around 1:00. My mother has similar problem. She has difficulty finding items on sale most of the time at her Aldi. Additionally, we have had similar issues, labels on the shelf not agreeing with labels on the items. Aldi needs to do a better job with their labels.

  • I recently spoke with Aldi rep and asked if their Millville Steel Cut Oats are Monsanto free of pesticides. They answered that they only use approved pesticides by the Government. The answer is clear. Aldi lies. You are eating poison and gmo modified foods and do not know it. I suggest that you contact Aldi and demand an explanation.

    • I know this is old, but don’t we all know to assume all oats not marked as USDA approved organic DO contain roundup? So if their Millville brand makes no organic claim and you don’t want roundup, choose their organic brand. USDA organics are not permitted to use roundup. No lies from Aldi anywhere here. Consumer chooses organic or does not. There is no deception and nothing to get anyone’s panties all bunched up.

  • If what this gentleman says is true than Aldis is not really 100% organic and you are still consuming glyphosate(round up)(monsanto) which is what is causing all our food issues in the first place…so sad to read this, but thank you Michael O for doing the real research.

  • I love shopping at our local Aldi’s , esp. the produce, organic eggs, cheese and iced coffee and their fab. cheesecake! Their grass fed beef (hamburger or meat loaf) is ok too but they raised their prices so it is comparable to other local stores when not on sale.
I just wrote them a letter since I didn’t know that Simply Nature was their store brand and had a question about their instant oatmeal with flaxseed.
I didn’t want to shop there at first (years ago) when my neighbor took me because I thought it was on the order of Walmart which I refuse to shop in and they didn’t have any organics then and limited grocery varieties. I tried a new Aldi’s not too far from me (have to bus it) and found it much better and getting better all the time.
The store is clean, personnel at this store are very helpful and nice (not so much at their surbuban store) and of course, their prices are usually the best on most items. Some of their customers leave a lot to be desired in that neighborhood but the managers have gotten much better. I do my major shopping at Aldi’s and do have to supplement occasionally at a local store but consider Aldi’s the best new grocery chain for freshness and price (Trader Joes is another favorite)!!!
